Having a sleep routine is a necessary and indispensable part of the healthy development of babies and children. Within this sleep routine, naps also take place, those short periods of rest that are beneficial for your health and your brain .
As babies and children grow, naps decrease in duration and quantity, but they continue to be an important and normal part of the first years of life, at least until the age of three or four according to the Spanish Association of Pediatrics (AEP ) .

The first thing we are going to explain is that we should never force a baby or child to take a nap . Absolutely nothing will happen if one day (or two) she skips this break, as long as she subsequently sleeps the recommended hours according to her age .

If we notice that this refusal to take a nap happens frequently, it may be necessary to make some adjustments that help promote sleep. For example, a few minutes before his usual nap time we can do some quiet activity, like reading him a story, to help him relax.
Of course, we cannot forget the importance of having an environment that invites you to rest . Choosing a quiet place that has a pleasant temperature , a little soft music and some dim light, are the ideal elements to invite you to take your nap.
It is also possible that, despite all our efforts, our children simply do not want to take a nap because at that moment they do not need it.
